This listening assessment is a formal, formative assessment that aims to test students’ intensive listening skills. It simply asks students to listen to a sentence and type what they hear. The goal is for them to be able to listen for the specific words and components of the sentence in order for the students to type what they hear. Because it is only 7 questions and is computer generated and scored, it appears to be both pretty practical and reliable. However, its major limitation is that the computer expects the student to use correct capitalization and punctuation in their responds, which are components of language that you often cant “hear.” Students would need to be familiar with punctuation and prepared for this part of the test prior to taking it. Those assessing should also take this into consideration and make sure that they remain focused on grading what the students “heard” accurately.
